Hi, this is Wellness Coach Dawn. Today’s topic is “Taking Charge of Your New Beginnings.” Last night we had a new moon, and this new moon was cause to mark the next day, this day, as the beginning of the Chinese New Year! The day annually falls within a 23-days long festival, known in China as the Spring Festival. The festival begins on the 23rd-day of a year’s 12th-lunar month, and ends on the 15th-day of the 1st-lunar month of the following year, the day of the full moon. The Chinese calendar has a cycle of 60-years. The 60-years cycle intermixes 12-heavenly (astrological, zodiac-oriented) stems and 10-earthly (element-oriented) branches. Each year is composed of a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. During the Spring Festival people welcome Spring and what it brings along. Planting, flowers blossoming, etcetera. Generally, new beginnings! Here in New Jersey it sure seems like Spring. We have had 2-consecutive days with afternoon temperatures above and about 60-degrees Fahrenheit. Is it Spring? Well, as the 3rd input, in addition to the Chinese New Year’s Day, and the moderate temperature, Punxsutawney Phil, the Ground Hog, did forecast, by not seeing his shadow on Saturday the 2nd, that Spring was coming early. Therefore, it must be spring, right? Even if it is technically not, the trio of happenings is a call to action for each of us to get after what we seek, to get out there and make new beginnings happen and keep. Listen. Listen to heaven and earth and the natural things. Start fresh, right now. Get in touch with your heart, mind, body and soul, and then get going! Finally, as a motivator, the Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Pig. Symbolically, the Year of the Pig means good fortune, such as good fortune in finances, good fortune in career, good fortune in relationships, and so on. Good fortune is forecasted to come for you in all things pursued. Each of you shout it out then from nature’s side of your front door, “My time is now!” Whatever is not serving you at this time, clear it away, and then get going on the endeavors for you that matter most.
