And when you&#8217;re busy,\u00a0 food can fast, too. So how do you eat healthy while living a busy lifestyle? It call comes down to understanding your options for healthy eating on-the-go.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we eat on-the-go, it\u2019s easy to miss important nutrients. Probably one of the main food categories missed are fruits and vegetables. We\u2019re supposed to get in nine servings of fruits and veggies per day. Most people are hovering at about 2.5! Fruits and vegetables are antioxidant powerhouses, so make sure to include them as often as possible. Eating fruits and vegetables on-the-go are actually the fastest of fast foods. There\u2019s not much to crunching into an apple, peeling an orange or\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even tossing a salad with your favorite dressing. There\u2019s no cooking involved, yet on-the-goers tend to skimp on the fruits and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">veggies. Bring some veggies sticks along for the ride or find stores that carry grab \u2019n go salads. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to carbohydrates, it\u2019s easier to eat processed carbohydrates on-the-go, because that\u2019s what\u2019s available in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">most convenience stores and restaurants. But whole grains are essential for lasting energy. Most fast food restaurants and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grab-n-go snacks are full of processed, \u201cwhite\u201d carbohydrates. These foods give a quick energy boost that is short-lived and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">detract from our health. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another common ingredient in fast food is unhealthy fat, namely trans fats. It\u2019s important to focus on healthy fats because they help reduce inflammation in the body, improve brain health and mood, while satiating us so that we feel full rather than famished. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, if you eat on-the-run, you may find yourself filling up with empty-calorie snacks that provide you short-term boosts of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">energy and few nutrients. Avoid fake fuel snacks that deplete your energy like caffeine, sugar and processed foods. Caffeine may seem like it gives you an energy boost, but it doesn\u2019t last long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Try these simple energy on-the-go snacks<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Almond butter spread on an apple or banana<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hard boiled eggs \u2013 the most portable food on earth, it comes in it\u2019s own travel case!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Trail Mix \u2013 buy raw almonds, walnuts, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds and mix together in a bag before you go out the door.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Veggie sticks \u2013 add hummus or salsa<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Whole grain crackers <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Organic yogurt with granola or fresh fruit \u00a0&#8211; make sure your yogurt doesn\u2019t have artificial sweeteners added.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Energy Bars \u2013 make sure it\u2019s not loaded with \u2018fake energy\u2019 such as sugar or high fructose corn syrup.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Grape tomatoes &#8211; sprinkle with feta cheese and drizzle with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and sea salt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Baked sweet potato \u2013 Bake ahead of time and drizzle with agave nectar for a sweet treat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Avocado \u2013 if you are going to be traveling and not able to get a healthy meal, avocados have good fat and will satisfy you.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you make energizing on-the-go choices, you&#8217;ll have more energy to lead your busy lifestyle without feeling depleted or exhausted.\u00a0 So give it a try and let me know what on-the-go options keep you going!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re like most people, you&#8217;re busy.
